Book Explaining Atlantis will Come Out in Japanese

The book "Atlantis from a Geographers Perspective" by Dr. Ulf Erlingsson, which links Platos Atlantis to megalithic Ireland, will come out in Japanese on a major publishing house. The book was released in the U.S. in November 2004, and has been favorably received by scholars and the general public alike.

Miami, FL (PRWEB) January 29, 2005 -- Of the several theories for the location of Atlantis that were advanced during 2004, the hypothesis that Atlantis was based on megalithic Ireland probably got the most favorable reception. It provoked supporting arguments from students of Irish mythology, archaeology, and early Egyptology. In contrast, the Cyprus hypothesis for instance was sunken quickly when several geologists refuted it based on field data.

Megalithic Ireland was identified as a major inspiration for Platos Atlantis in the book "Atlantis from a Geographers Perspective: Mapping the Fairy Land" by Ulf Erlingsson (Lindorm Publishing, $16.95, hardcover). The author erected hypotheses and tested them using methods commonly used only in the pure sciences. In that sense, the book represents the first new hard data on Atlantis since Plato died 2,350 years ago.

Prof. em. Wibjörn Karlén, editor of the scientific journal Geografiska Annaler, wrote the foreword. Leading scholars have been quite positive to the book, commending its groundbreaking scientific approach to the old enigma.

As a literary work it has also been acclaimed. Librarian Curt Allred wrote to the author, you have a wonderful book on your hands, and it really ought to be in more libraries!" Perhaps it will, now that Japanese publisher Hara Shobo (www.harashobo.co.jp) has picked it up. The English first edition is specifically manufactured for libraries and made in a small print run, why it is expected to become a collectible.

To say that the book is revisionist would be an understatement. Without exaggeration, if accepted it will revolutionize our view of prehistory. It will move the knowledge frontier in European History from the Bronze Age to way back in the Stone Age-long before the pyramids of Egypt were built.

As yet, no scientific criticism has been advanced against the findings of the book, in spite of an open invitation to debate it at AtlantisInIreland.com. The next milestone will be when Dr. Erlingsson presents the theory at an academic Atlantis conference in Greece in July. Meanwhile he is working on several scientific papers and books concerning prehistoric geography.
