Carbon Project Releases Free .Net Toolkit for Open Geospatial Development The Carbon Project has announced it is providing a free development toolkit, CarbonTools 2, which will allow thousands of software developers to use Microsoft .NET technology to easily develop interoperable geospatial solutions and access hundreds of online geospatial resources. Washington, DC (PRWEB) February 1, 2005 -- The Carbon Project today announced it is providing a free development toolkit, CarbonTools 2, which will allow thousands of software developers to use Microsoft .NET technology to easily develop interoperable geospatial solutions and access hundreds of online geospatial resources.
CarbonTools 2 is a free software toolkit designed and distributed with the goal of allowing individual users the opportunity to develop and distribute open geospatial applications with no royalties or fees. We believe open geospatial interoperability should be accessible to all developers and CarbonTools 2 delivers on that belief," said Nuke Goldstein, Founder of The Carbon Project. Based on the Microsoft .NET 1.1 Framework, CarbonTools 2 provides a powerful, extendible yet simple API for accessing geospatial web services based on Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) specifications. CarbonTools 2 provides an easy way to interact with any OGC Web Map Service (WMS) or Web Feature Service (WFS) and easily handles Geography Markup Language (GML), OGCs XML encoding for geospatial information.
CarbonTools 2 enables open geospatial interoperability to move into the mainstream and creates powerful new opportunities for highly-scalable OGC implementations," said Edric Keighan, President and CEO of CubeWerx. Organizations want to implement OGC-based Web Services and weve already seen how CarbonTools can rapidly extend Windows-based GIS application to efficiently use OGC Web Services. This new release of CarbonTools 2 makes it much easier for anyone to use OGC WMS, WFS and GML," said Chris Tucker, CEO of IONIC Enterprise.
A major part of the standards uptake process is providing tools to software engineers who design and build systems. Every successful introduction of new technology of any magnitude has been accompanied by freely available tools like CarbonTools 2 that help innovative forces invent and create," said Dr. Matt Tate, Vice President, Geospatial Solutions Federal, Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions.
