African American History Month Gospel Heritage Concert

Concert featuring the traditional music of Paul Robeson, Marian Anderson, Mahalia Jackson, The 5 Blindboys and others.

(PRWEB) February 3, 2005 -- At 6 pm on Sunday February 06, at the Frank Lloyd Wright Unity Temple, in honor of Black History Month, Goldenvoice Audio Productions is presenting in concert, a musical tribute to pioneers -- Paul Robeson, Mahalia Jackson, Marian Anderson, Fisk Jubilee Singers and the 5 Blind Boys, in a program filled with some of Chicagos most phenomenal voices in one of Oak Parks most spectacular spaces.

Performing will be Felicia Coleman-Evans, who made her Carnegie Hall debut as a featured soloist in the tribute to the great Leontyne Price. She continues to perform throughout the United States and Europe, and in a recent tour with Sue Conway and the Victory Singers included a historic first time ever Gospel performance at La Scala.

Also performing is Roberta Thomas, who has astounded audiences with her electrifying spirit-filled vocals. Roberta has toured and concertized throughout the United States and Europe as a featured soloist with internationally acclaimed groups including The Gospel Supremes, Committed, and the Sue Conway Victory Singers and is dedicated to spreading the gospel in song throughout the world.

In addition, the a cappella gospel quartet PHAVA" will perform it's unique blend of traditional offerings. The group was born out of the hit Chicago gospel play A Piece of My Soul". The group had its first performance in Europe and has since become a Chicago favorite with recent engagements at the Old Town School of Folk Music and the Bluegrass festival in Evanston, performing songs made popular by groups like The 5 Blind Boys" "Canton Spirituals" and others, but with a twist."

The concert is to be hosted by Llou Johnson, basso-profundo vocalist and actor who most recently toured London as a soloist with the Oak Park Concert Chorale, who he performed with for the film "Normal" starring Jessica Lang. He appeared in both Barbershop I & II and heads up the popular quartet group "PHAVA". Llou's signature voice is also heard on tv and radio commercials worldwide and is currently working on an animation project with Maureen Hodges, daughter of the late Charles Schultz.
