Pro Audio Shootout: Cakewalk Sonar vs. Steinberg Cubase The Digital Music Doctor has released a new analysis comparing the advantages of two pro audio software leaders-Steinberg Cubase SX 3 and Cakewalk Sonar 4. The differences highlighted in this study can help musicians decide which product is more suitable for their needs. (PRWEB) February 3, 2005 - These two products compete head to head with each other in both the professional and amateur market for music production systems. Each provides an impressive array of both audio and MIDI recording, editing, and mixing functions. At the 30,000 foot level, the two products are about as different as Tweedledum and Tweedledee. However, this study takes a closer look and highlights some of the more significant distinctions.
As detailed in the analysis, each product clearly stands out in certain areas:
Advantage Cubase SX 3 - Score Editor - Audio Import & Export - File Management - MIDI Processing & Editing - Audio Processing & Editing - Non-Linear Sequencer - Networking
Advantage Sonar 4 - Third-Party DXi Plug-Ins - VSTi and DXi Support - Video - Track Manipulation - Drum Map Manager
The analysis contains three sections-Audio Features, MIDI Features and General Features-which compare all of the functions of the two products, indicating which product, if either, has the advantage. There are 126 functions listed in all. Cubase has an advantage in 32 of the functions and Sonar takes the lead in 21 others.
This study is based on the training materials used in the interactive video tutorials produced by Digital Music Doctor, Sonar 4-Know It All! and Cubase SX 3-Know It All! The complete analysis is available at the Digital Music Doctor web site, http://www.digitalmusicdoctor.com/shootout/shootout.htm.
