VOIP for WISPs -- Is This Sticky Enough?

Voice Over IP calling is the hottest Internet application going now. It's the centerpiece of a sticky product bundle that Internet Service Providers, both wired and wireless, increasingly want to deploy. Wireless Tech Radio explores VOIP technology and the how-to choices on Wednesday's show.

Waterford, VA (PRWEB) February 3, 2005 -- VOIP is shaping up to be the next killer Internet application. Wireless ISPs everywhere are looking to add voice calling and enhanced feature capabilities -- its 'sticky, adds value and brings them additional revenue. Tony Surak of Newforth Partners joins Wireless Tech Radio tomorrow at 10AM Eastern to discuss VOIP technologies and the important choices ISPs and WISPs need to consider.

VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) is a new way of making virtually free or low cost telephone calls without MA Bells involvement -- calls are placed, routed, and carried over broadband connections without touching the phone companys switches. PC to PC calls are free through numerous software clients (soft phones). VOIP calls to traditional the worlds wired phones are possible at extremely low rates -- two cents a minute or unlimited minutes for a flat rate, for example. The long distance companies, local phone companies, and even cable companies are offering VOIP based calling, long distance, fax lines, and even primary telephone service using VOIP technology.

Tony Surak joins Wireless Tech Radio to discuss not only why wired and wireless ISPs should offer VOIP services (customer stickiness & retention, higher ARPUs), hell also discuss the ways to implement them. Should you build, it, buy it or partner up? Each has its costs and advantages. Mr. Surak is Senior Director of Newforth Partners, an M&A advisory firm which also provides business & technology consultancy. He was a cofounder of TalkingNets, one of the first all VOIP based CLECs, which was later acquired by DSLnet.
