Ellen Macarthur Breaks World Sailing Record Live on the Internet

Using Narrowstep's TV Station in a Box technology images of UK sailor Ellen Macarthur breaking the solo circumnavigation record were available globally on OCtv.

(PRWEB) February 9, 2005 -- After sailing over 27,000 miles through some of the most trecherous seas on the planet, Ellen crossed the finishing line between the UK and France at 22:30 GMT on 7th February. She then was then heard and seen live on OCtv as she returned to port in Falmouth, UK for a press conference.

The yachtswoman, based in the Isle of Wight on England's southern coast, but originally from landlocked Derbyshire was clearly elated. She had barely slept for more than half an hour at a time since leaving port.

Only one sailor has previously achieved a circumnavigation in a multihull, the most extreme of sasiling craft. Frenchman Francis Joyon set the record for all sailing craft last year in 72 days, 22hours, 54 minutes and 22 seconds. MacArthur broke his record by over a day.

A limited number of tickets at GBP4 ($7.50)were available to watch the finale of this amazing feat, with the proceeds going to Ellen's charitable trust.
