AsburyMusic.com Adds Online Radio Station To Its Mix

AsburyMusic.com is creating an online radio station as eclectic as Asbury Park itself where local artists have the entire world as their stage.

(PRWEB) February 14, 2005

The Jersey Shore has produced some of the world’s most popular musicians over the years, but the sounds heard inside Asbury Park clubs may surprise a lot of people. While you’re bound to hear traditional Jersey Shore artists like Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band or Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, you’ll also find the sounds of punk, hardcore, folk, blues, jazz, heavy metal, rap, and even Goth music coming from the stage. With the creation of AsburyMusic.com’s new online radio station, the true range of Jersey Shore music will be broadcast to the world.

AsburyMusic.com is a local website for the music community that was launched in 2003. The site was originally created as a companion piece to Gary Wien’s book, “Beyond The Palace” which took a look at the history of rock music in Asbury Park. As the web site grew, it became a bigger and bigger piece of the local music scene providing event calendars, cd and show reviews, photo galleries, features, and interviews with artists. Once message boards were added, the community aspect was in full force. Regular posters to the message boards include musicians, club owners and employees, music writers, local music fans and fans of Jersey Shore music from around the world.

In October 2004, the website won the Asbury Music Award for “Best Music Website”. The new online radio station allows AsburyMusic.com to continue to further its goal of promoting the local music scene. The radio station lets the world hear the upcoming artists from the Jersey Shore alongside national artists. In fact, the model for the station is that of a college radio station where just about anything goes.

Unlike many online stations, AsburyMusic.com will feature live disc jockeys throughout most of the day. The actual weekly schedule is still being set up, but will eventually feature shows involving alternative rock, Jersey Shore music, punk, Goth, jazz & blues, unsigned artists, classic rock, live poetry, and shows involving artist interviews and in-studio performances. Some current shows include: Gary Wien with the “The Jersey Shore Hour” every weekday at noon; Ken Shane with “Ken at Night” most nights from 10pm to 1am; and “Lazlo’s Den” every Wednesday night at 8pm.

The new radio station at AsburyMusic.com is broadcast at 56kps and can be listened to by Winamp, Windows Media Player, or Real Player. Users may listen to the station by clicking on “radio station” at the AsburyMusic.com menu.

AsburyMusic.com is produced by Upstage Magazine (upstagemagazine.com). The radio station broadcasts from the Upstage Magazine office in downtown Asbury Park.
