(PRWEB) February 20, 2005 -- Panndora Productions opens Im Not Rappaport on Friday, February 25 in association with Little Fish Theatre in San Pedro. This Tony-award winning play revolves around a budding friendship between two eighty-year old men -- errant knights reminiscent of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. From a bench in Central Park, their exploits take us on a memorable journey where apparent failures turn to success.

Nat, an 81-year-old Jewish radical and dreamer, and Midge, an old, nearly blind boiler operator, cope with pushers, junkies, an official who wants to fire Midge, and Nats daughter, Clara, who wants to keep her father safe from harms way.

In my history there were these extraordinary guys, men and women, all immigrants, passionate people, who believed a great, humane kind of America existed-and when it didn't, they decided to make up the difference." (Herb Gardner)

This urban tale resonated with audiences across the country. After opening in 1984 at the Seattle Repertory Theatre, Im Not Rappaport moved to Broadway, where it played for two years, starring Cleavon Little and Judd Hirsch. In 1986 Rappaport won the Tony Award for best play and Hirsch won as best actor.

The Cast

Veteran actors, David Gold and Ree Johnson, play the two feisty octogenarians, Nat and Midge. Also featuring Leandro Cano as the Cowboy, Vanessa Koman as Laurie, Elsa Llevat as Nats daughter, Clara, Martin Noyes as Gilley, and Brian Byers as Danforth.

Writer Herb Gardner

After his death at the age of 68 in September 2003, tributes written of Herb Gardner honored him as a writer, a non-conformist, a humorist and humanist. Gardner had a rare combination of intelligence, humanity, mad energy, deep insight into character and true comic brilliance. His voice was so distinctive, his characters so mesmerizing and his humor so appealing, he became one of the most-produced playwrights worldwide."

Gardners works are all wonderfully witty, as they deal seriously, intelligently and movingly with issues such as ageism, anti-Semitism, crime and dysfunctional society. Each piece pits a larger-than-life free spirit and dreamer against forces who seek to make him conform to what is generally accepted to be normal."
