Steven Kendus to Present Sell Your Skills with a Web-Based Portfolio" at 2005 STC-PMC Annual Conference Steven M. Kendus, vice president of marketing for QED Information Systems, Inc. and owner of GoodResume.com and MyHouseSpecs.com, will present Sell Your Skills with a Web-Based Portfolio" at the 2005 annual conference of the Society for Technical Communication - Philadelphia Metro Chapter on March 19, 2005. Wilmington (PRWEB) February 24, 2005 -- Steven M. Kendus, vice president of marketing for QED Information Systems, Inc. and owner of GoodResume.com and MyHouseSpecs.com, will present Sell Your Skills with a Web-Based Portfolio" at the 2005 annual conference of the Society for Technical Communication - Philadelphia Metro Chapter (STC-PMC) on March 19, 2005 at the Penn State Great Valley campus.
The presentation, based on Kendus article Developing a Web-Based Portfolio" that appeared as the cover feature in the November 2002 issue of Intercom, addresses the benefits of Web-based portfolios for technical communication job candidates and offers tips on creating them. Web-based portfolios are personalized Web sites that use modern technology (such as HTML, word processing applications, and Adobe Acrobat) to present examples of technical communication skills to potential employers.
According to Kendus, You can definitely sell your technical communication skills with a Web-based portfolio. Not only can your online portfolio include links to traditional, paper-based document samples, like users guides and technical manuals, it can also display dynamic samples, like Web sites and online help systems. Additionally, the Web-based portfolio itself is another example of your skills (especially if it is designed using an industry-standard tool like Macromedias RoboHelp). With the continuous movement of organizations toward paperless environments, I think it only makes sense to impress potential employers with a paperless portfolio."
The 2005 conference features two exciting keynote speakers - Jean-luc Doumont, a recognized expert on visual communication and training, and Christopher Kojm, the deputy executive director of the staff responsible for writing The 9/11 Commission Report.
STC-PMC President Steven Lungren looks forward to the conference. We have an award winning annual conference, and this year it's bigger and better than ever. We'll have 18 presenters from eight different states. Like Steven Kendus, several of our speakers are published authors, and others are experienced presenters at national and international conferences," states Lungren.
