New York Singer/Songwriter Murray Weinstock Blazes Trail through Austin in Feature Appearance at Bow Wow Festival

In Addition to Feature Performance at Festival, Weinstock Does Thursday Night In-Store at Waterloo Records

Austin, TX (PRWEB) March 5, 2005 -- Renowned New York City singer/songwriter and canine champion Murray Weinstock, whose new CD Tails of the City was recently featured on NPR and internationally on iTunes, appears at Waterloo Records in Austin Thursday at 5 p.m. for a live performance.

Weinstock's new CD-highlighted in the New York Daily News, The San Francisco Chronicle, Billboard magazine and Just Labs magazine-features 12 original songs sung by a variety of friends and musical colleagues, including New Orleans superstar Mac Rebbenack (aka Dr. John), jazz vocalist Phoebe Snow, Soozie Tyrell of Bruce Springsteen's band, Johnny Farina of Santo & Johnny, and Lovin' Spoonful lead singer John Sebastian, with whom Weinstock sang and

played keyboard on the theme song for the '70s TV show Welcome Back, Kotter.

Weinstock will also be a featured artist at the Bow Wow Festival, appearing Sunday, March 5 at 3:30 p.m. on the main stage. Performing with Weinstock, who will sing his original composition, "The Bow Wow Polka" written especially for the Festival, will be John Hagen (cello) from Lyle Lovett's Band; Scott Matthews (drummer) from The Derailers; David Holt (guitar, vocals) formerly with the Mavericks, Storyville and Joe Ely; and Dave Ray (bass), studio musician and teacher at the Austin School of Music.

In addition to the in-store performance at Waterloo and the Festival appearance on Saturday, Weinstock will also be featured on KGSR Radio from 7 to 9 a.m. and on News 8 TV on Thursday, March 3.

Weinstock, a fixture on the New York City music scene whose work includes collaborations with Manhattan Transfer, Esther Phillips, Richie Havens, Don Covay, Buddy Miles and Kenny Vance & the Planotones, says his new CD Tails of the City grew out of a 15-year love affair with his late dachshund Sparky. "It came from just hanging out with Sparky, trying to express musically what was going through his mind as he sniffed his way around Manhattan."
