Asheville Squadron CAP Cadets Promoted

Cadets of the Asheville Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, promoted

Asheville, NC (PRWEB) March 5, 2005 -- Several Civil Air Patrol Cadets were recently promoted at an Awards Ceremony at the Civil Air Patrol Headquarters at the Asheville Regional Airport, Asheville, North Carolina. In additional, a number of service awards were presented to both senior and cadets members of the squadron.

Cadet Michael Gallandt, 15, was promoted to Cadet Master Sergeant. Cadet Gallandt serves as the Cadet Deputy Commander for the Squadron and also received a Two-year Service Award. Cadet Caleb Nolan, 14, was promoted to Cadet Technical Sergeant. Cadet Noland also serves as the Cadet Aerospace Education Officer. Cadet Peter Upton, 13, was promoted to Cadet Senior Airman. Each CAP Cadet promotion represents completion of a number of hours of training and tests in physical fitness, aerospace education, leadership, and unit activities, among other subjects.

Special guest at the Thursday Awards Ceremony was a former cadet in the squadron, 1st Lieutenant Ken Dixon, USAF, a C-5 Galaxy aircraft pilot, serving with the 9th Air Lift Squadron at Dover, Delaware. Lt. Dixon, who spoke to the group, is a former student of East Henderson High School and received his commission at UNC Charlotte.

The Asheville Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, in Asheville, NC, is composed of both cadets and seniors. The Squadrons website introduction states the their objectives: Civil Air Patrol, Americas Air Force Auxiliary, building the Nations finest force of citizen volunteers - performing Missions for America. To serve America by developing our Nations youth; accomplishing local, state and national emergency and humanitarian missions; and educating our citizens on the impact of aviation and space."

CAPs three main missions are: Aerospace Education, the Cadet Program, and Emergency Services. Members learn: ground search and rescue, aviation history, the space program, how an aircraft works, navigation, weather, leadership, management techniques and much more. The Asheville Squadrons address is 61 General Aviation Drive, Fletcher, NC 28732.
