National Kid's Craft Day March 14 Helps Kids Develop Self-Confidence

Children learn problem solving skills in a relaxed setting when working on craft projects. They develop self confidence by using creativity in making a variety of craft projects.

Colchester, CT (PRWEB) March 14, 2005 -- In todays high tech world, children often miss out on the creative process of touching, molding, squeezing and creating. Working with crafts lets children experience various senses. They smell the earthy clay, and feel the sticky papier mache mixture. S&S Worldwide, a leading mail order company featuring arts and crafts and sports supplies, sponsors National Kids Craft Day on March 14th.

Along with having fun, children learn problem solving skills by doing craft projects," states Silvana Clark, craft consultant. Children need to figure out how to create antlers for their moose sculpture. How can they make pink paint if only red and white paint is available? As children gain confidence in making decisions concerning crafts, those skills transfer to other areas of life. What can I do to fix the strap on my bike helmet? How can I improve my grade in math?" These low key experiences working on craft projects form the basis for creative problem solving.

Children also gain a sense of satisfaction in working with crafts. They can create something without worrying about a perfect result. They have the freedom to use their imagination and make something unique. After all, theres no reason a puppet cant have green hair, three eyes and two tails. Mom! Look what I made!" they exclaim with pride. Naturally childrens self-confidence develops as their craft project is proudly displayed to family and friends.

Celebrate National Kids Craft Day with these easy projects:

1.    Ever tell children to Put on your thinking cap"? Let them make thinking caps to adorn their heads. Cut strips of construction paper into sections about 3" by 22". Set out an assortment of stickers, glitter and markers so children can decorate their thinking caps. When completed, measure to fit around your childs head and fasten with tape. Wear the caps when strenuous thinking is taking place.

2.    Stamping is a popular craft activity with children. Make your own stamps using inner soles. Many Dollar stores sell inexpensive inner soles for weary feet. Using ordinary scissors have children cut the inner soles into basic shapes such as hearts or triangles. Glue the cut-out shapes to small pieces of wood or the top of baby food jars. When glue dries, press stamp into an ink pad and use to decorate stationery or cards.

3.    How about planning a craft party to celebrate National Kids Craft Day? Instead of spending hours searching for craft supplies, buy some group craft packages from S&S Worldwide. www.ssww.com Its a breeze to order reasonably priced craft kits that include all the supplies you need for 12, 24 or even 50 kids! (If you are that brave!)

Celebrate Kids Craft Day by turning off the television and turning on the fun with a variety of craft projects. Set out the paper, glue and scissors and watch the self confidence soar as creativity takes place.
