They also challenged themselves to relate the card-making process to motherhood and the creative spirit and found there are many commonalties. This compelling and colorful array of greeting cards can be viewed at their online card shop.

(PRWEB) March 29, 2005 -- If you've ever sandwiched "Mother's Day card" between skim milk and trash bags on your grocery list, then you know what you'll find at your grocery store's greeting card section: a nagging case of goose bumps (from the chill drifting over from the frozen foods) and a much less than perfect card for the mom in your life. Even if you're someone who goes the extra mile to scour the rows of cards at your nearest stationery store, you come away with that baffling feeling of "so much and yet so little."

So, is finding that special card for your special mom an impossible task? Not anymore. And now, you don't even have to leave your home to find it.

Professional greeting card artists and designers from across the United States and Canada, have banded together as Our House of Cards (OHOC), providing a source for unique paper greeting cards that is an alternative to the mass-produced cards you typically see. You can find their retail and wholesale shops conveniently located at www.ourhouseofcards.com, and open 24/7.

"What sets our cards apart is the personal touch," says Gillian McCrostie, owner of GillianCards (Ontario) and founder of Our House of Cards. "The cards offered by OHOC are made or printed by the very people who thought them up."

Our House of Cards artists, while creating this years edition of Mothers Day greeting cards, challenged themselves to relate the card-making process to motherhood and found some commonalties.

Kathleen McSweeney, photographer and owner of The Creative Center (Virginia) says, "Sometimes I look at my daughter and son, who are adults now with lives of their own, and I think, 'Did I really have a part in bringing them to life?' What artist has not thought the same about a piece of work she or he has created?"

OHOC member, Marie Turner, owner of Greenelf Lino Print Cards (Ontario) says, "My cards feel like part of me. I want them to go to good homes and to be loved and cherished, as I loved and cherished them while I made them."

"The Mother's Day selection at Our House of Cards is not just a celebration of mothers but of the creative spirit in everyone," says McCrostie. That creative spirit shines in many ways at OHOC.

Judith Geiger Donlon, owner of Designhead Studio (California,) and one of the founding members of OHOC says that her, 3 Eternal Hearts" was inspired by 'family love. "For this card, I tore handmade paper into heart shapes and scanned them, along with some fabric, into the computer. I then played with trimming, resizing, overlay and painting color onto my images to achieve the final results."

"Sunflowers," an original watercolour created by Lisa Larsen, owner of Blue Mesa Designs, LLC (Colorado), resulted from a lovely gift bouquet of sunflowers. "They so brightened my day that I just had to create a sunflower bouquet card."

Larsen creates a small archival quality print for each card that she then mounts on white vellum paper stock.

"The Window Box," made one at a time, takes McCrostie one hour to create each card and no two are exactly the same. She hand embosses, hand cuts and hand glues every intricate part and petal of this card.

Jennifer Mally, speaking of her Mother's Day sheep card explains: "Like many of my cards, "Sheep", was inspired by a client, who asked, 'Do you have any cards with sheep?' I said, 'No, but I can.' So I set out to sketch and paint some sheep that made me smile." Mally uses reproductions of her paintings for her cards and then adds special accents by hand.

The members of OHOC strive to take back every heart-felt moment from the mass-producing conglomerates in our society and make it something more personal.
