(PRWEB) March 24, 2005 -- You only mock the ones you love. The ones you shouldnt mock at all, apparently. The New York Times is discontinuing their weekly Circuits section, which covered consumer technology news every Thursday. The CircuitsWatch.com website, which gently poked fun at the somewhat stodgy mix of game reviews and trend reports, denies all responsibility for this unfortunate turn of events.
Despite skewering The Times each week for the tone-deaf quality of their tech reporting, CircuitsWatch was never intended to bring down an entire section of a major metropolitan newspaper. We were just having some innocent fun. We didnt know they were going to pull the plug on the whole thing," CircuitsWatch founder Dan Ackerman says.
Sources at The New York Times say that, while not a daily topic of conversation, the editors of Circuits were at least aware of CircutisWatch.com (and mildly annoyed by it).
According to a memo from New York Times managing editor Bill Keller, We intend to continue the great journalism that section has pioneered, but no longer as a weekly stand-alone section. A new weekly section, launching in April, will be focused on fashion, fitness, beauty, smart shopping and lifestyles."
CircuitsWatch.com has a few helpful story ideas, so the Times doesnt get too far behind in tech reporting.
*USB flash memory keys -- v. v. hot! *Video games -- not just for kids anymore! *Gadgets for senior citizens -- cute, but kinda creepy.
The final edition of Circuits will run on March 24, 2005. The CircuitsWatch website is located at http://www.circuitswatch.com.
