33 Ways to Break Into Hollywood

ScriptForSale.com has just released a free tool with 33 strategies to get your foot in Hollywood's door.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 23, 2005 -- With 60,000 screenplays flowing into Hollywood this year, it is tough to break in, but not impossible. ScriptForSale.com and FinalDraft.com just released a free tool to make it easier -- a set of 33 strategies to get your foot in the door. (http://www.scriptforsale.com/33ways/signup33.htm)

"You've got to be creative about marketing your career," says Hal Croasmun of ScriptForSale.com. "The objective is to find a door that will open for you. Many times, that means trying unusual or multiple strategies."

Michael Hockney of Penticton, British Columbia wrote screenplays for seven Canadian directors. Jeff Howard of Tulsa, Oklahoma has released a DVD of his new low-budget movie. Rie Natalenko won Best Unproduced Screenplay in Australia.

These three "unknowns" just landed on Hollywood's radar.

Hockney used Strategy #17: "Approach Indie Filmmakers" to build a reputation with low-budget independents in Canada. Instead of trying to sell a spec script, he has honed his craft and talent where it really counts -- doing writing assignments for directors and producers...and getting paid for it.

Howard stepped into the ring using Strategy #23, "Direct Your Own Film." He teamed up with Mark Mason to write and make Prize Fighter (http://www.prizefighterthemovie.com) that has just been released on DVD. Then Howard used Strategy #18, "Get Media Exposure" as he spent two weeks doing radio interviews to promote the movie and his screenwriting career.

Using Strategy #5 "Win Contests with Industry Recognition," Aussie-based Natalenko has just won her fifth contest and this one garnered her an international agent who has arranged meetings in Los Angeles. She also has used Strategy #10 "Put Up a Web site" and has her site at http://www.hotkey.net.au/~natalenko/index.html .

As these screenwriters have experienced, there are many different routes into Hollywood. "Too many screenwriters give up after trying only the traditional strategies," says Croasmun. "We didn't want to see any more dreams die over a lack of options."
