Early Vacation Planners help Western Road Trips Donate $1,000 to Refugees Western Road Trips, a small volkswagen camper rental agency pledged to make a $100 donation for every reservation made in February. They ended up taking 10 reservations and recently made a $1,000 donation to help refugee families around the world. Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) March 26, 2005 -- A few days after the devastating Tsunami hit Asia, a Western Road Trips customer called to cancel his reservation. Instead of renting a Volkswagen Camper rental for a road trip through the ski resorts of the West he decided to donate his travel money to help those affected by the tragedy.
This got the minds of Western Road Trips' owners, Pete Van Slooten and Nathan Williams thinking that they could do something to help as well. Rather than going to their customers and asking for additional money to donate they decided to give $100 to the United Nations Refugee Agency for each $250 reservation deposit they got in February.
"We had a total of ten reservations that were secured with deposits in February so we were able to donate $1,000 to help families around the globe." said Van Slooten. "This will help provide food, shelter, clean drinking water, and medicine to families in dire need. It was great to play the middle man between families in the devoloped world and failies in need in the third world."
The United Nations High Council on Refugees (UNHCR) is an organization that helps people displaced from their homes by war or natural disaster across the globe. Currently the main situations they are assisting with are the attempted genocide in the Chad Darfur Region of the Sudan in Africa, refugees in Afganistan and Iraq, and the areas hit by the Tsunami in Asia. Donors to the UNHCR can designate the project to which they want their donation to be applied or they can let experts at the UNHCR spread it among areas where it is most needed which is what Western Road Trips opted for.
