(PRWEB) March 27, 2005 -- Freetown Village Living History Museum, the Midwests most comprehensive museum on the African-American post-Civil War experience, offers the several public events for kids, history enthusiasts, soul food lovers and more with its special programs during April -- June.

American Idol -19th century style

Auditions for male and female singers to join the Freetown Village Singers will be Saturday, April 16 from 1-3 p.m. at the Madam Walker Theater Center. The Freetown Village Singers sing a cappella Negro spirituals, folk songs, and work songs interpreting African American heritage and culture. Performances are presented throughout Marion County and Central Indiana.

Participants need to prepare one slow song and one up-tempo a cappella piece. Please call for more information and to schedule and audition time, 317-631-1870.

Evening Dinner with Freetown Village

Enjoy a soul food meal seasoned with historical entertainment at the Evening Dinner with Freetown Village-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, Side Street Deli, 2666 N. Illinois St.

The cost is $35 for members and $40 non-members. VISA, MC, cash and checks are accepted. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling (317) 631-1870.

June-August

Now Enrolling for the Freetown Village Summer Day Camp

Registration is underway for the Freetown Village Summer Day Camp that will run June 6- August 5 at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 4601 N. Emerson Ave.

Children will receive educational enrichment, learn African American history, participate in drama, public speaking, music, dance, team building activities, and many educational craft projects. Children will participate in educational and fun field trips within Central Indiana.

Camp is open to children 6 -14 years old. Early bird registration is $20 before April 22 and $35 after April 22. Weekly fees are $50 for Freetown Village members and $60 for non-members. Camp hours are 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
