Private Number Plates Auctions Continue to Generate Interest

Recession, credit shortages and grave economic conditions fail to curb the vitality of the niche number plates market. High profile registrations continue to sell for large sums.

Dunstable, Bedfordshire (PRWEB) March 12, 2009 -- A forthcoming auction of UK private car registrations is expected to produce some spectacular sale prices. The sale, to be held at Ardencote Manor Hotel and Country Club in Claverdon, Warwick on the 25th, 26th and 27th March 2009 is being held by DVLA, the government agency responsible for the issue and regulation of UK car number plates. All eyes will be upon the registration 1 D following the very high prices achieved by similar numbers at recent sales. 1 O sold for £210,242 at a similar event in January 2009.

"We wouldn't be surprised to see 1 D reach £250,000," said a spokesman for Regtransfers.co.uk, the UK's leading independent private number plates (http://www.regtransfers.co.uk/) dealer, and operator of the Numberplates.com number plates club. "The high end of the private plates market is still very, very active and evidently people are still willing to pay whatever they must in order to secure these very exclusive numbers. It should be an exciting sale."

1 D will be a record breaker even before the hammer goes down. Its reserve price of £20,000 is the highest ever set for a British car registration at a DVLA auction. Another number that is the focus of significant interest and speculation is 2 O. Although the reserve price for 2 O is significantly lower at £8,000, the number is still expected to attract many bids.

1 O, which sold in January, and 2 O, which will be in the forthcoming sale, are the first in a series of six "O" registrations to be released over the coming year. The last, 6 O, is due to be released in December.
