New York (PRWEB) March 30, 2005 -- The 6th Havana Film Festival in New York, April 15-21, 2005 presents award-winners from Havana's Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano, as well as new independent films from and about Latin America. HFFNY 2005 will pay homage to two cinema luminaries, Pastor Vega (Cuba) and Walter Salles (Brazil) and showcase new long features, documentaries, short films, animation and classics from Cuba, Latin America, the Caribbean, and U.S.

Screenings will be at Quad Cinema, King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center at NYU, and Museum of the Moving Image (Astoria, Queens). All foreign language films are subtitled in English.

Highlights include:

• Opening Night Film, Friday, April 15 -- 7 PM: Love By Mistake (Perfecto Amor Equivocado) by Gerardo Chijona (Cuba)

• Closing Night Film, Thursday, April 21 -- 7 PM: Caribe by Esteban Ramirez (Costa Rica)

• Retrospective of legendary Cuban filmmaker and educator Pastor Vega with screenings of Retrato de Teresa, Las profecias de Amanda, Vidas Paralelas, Habanera, En el Aire, and Viva la República

• Tribute to renowned Brazilian director Walter Salles (Motorcycle Diaries) featuring Foreign Land, Central Station, Midnight, Behind the Sun, Life Somewhere Else, and Castanha e Caju

• Over 45 films from 12 countries

•Over 20 New York City Premieres

• Over 25 International Award-Winning Films

• Cuban and Latin American Classics

• Free program of animated shorts for pre-teens on Sunday, April 17 -- 1 PM. @KJC

• Avant-garde documentaries and shorts

• Lectures, panels, and post-screening Q&A sessions with invited filmmakers and leading experts in the field -- Sunday, April17 (3 PM) and Monday, April 18 (6:00 pm) @ KJC.
