MedicineNet Survey Shows Erectile Dysfunction (ED) Sufferers Get Information on the Web Yet Seek Medication and Treatment Offline MedicineNet survey shows that, although Erectile Dysfunction sufferers seek information on medication and treatment on the Web, most seek treatment and purchase medications from regular physicians and local pharmacies, not online. San Clemente, CA (PRWEB) March 31, 2005 -- Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is estimated to affect 30 million men in the United States and as many as 140 million worldwide. According to a MedicineNet survey, 57% of surveyed ED sufferers came to the Web seeking information on medication and treatment; however, only 6% of the surveyed ED sufferers indicated they used an online physician to secure oral medications. Most of the surveyed ED sufferers (78%) rely on family physicians and urologists for their medication and treatment. Most users (64%) of oral ED medication fill their prescriptions at their local pharmacy. Public awareness of ED has increased since the introduction of Viagra in 1998 with the broad use of direct-to-consumer advertising by pharmaceutical companies for ED treatment drugs. Along with expanded treatment options and a greater public consciousness, the discourse on ED has changed. ED is now out in the open.
Commenting on the survey, Dr. Shiel, Chief Medical Editor of MedicineNet.com noted that "this survey clearly shows that ED has emerged in the public consciousness as a treatable medical condition. Patients openly seek information and treatment. This is a positive change for both ED sufferers and their families. The survey shows that doctors play an important role in recommending treatment for ED sufferers and must be attentive to their patients' concerns."
"Online medical resources such as MedicineNet.com provide accurate information and are valuable sources of information for ED sufferers," added David Sorenson, Vice President Marketing at MedicineNet. "The survey showed that although offers for Viagra, Levitra and Cialis flood email boxes, patients are careful consumers and rely on trusted resources like MedicineNet, their physicians and local pharmacies for information, treatment and medications for ED," added Sorenson.
