Gratiaen Prize Short Listing

Pradeep Jeganathans At the Waters Edge short listed for the 2004 Gratiaen Prize, Sri Lankas most prestigious award for fiction.

(PRWEB) April 2, 2005 -- South Focus Press announces with great pleasure the short listing of Pradeep Jeganathans At the Waters Edge for the 2004 Gratiaen Prize, Sri Lankas most prestigious award for fiction. The citation lauded the subtlety of observation, complex political texture, the deft interweaving of major and minor characters in the interlinked stories, and above all, the brevity and economy of Jeganathans prose. Many critics are of the view that it will a strong contender for the prize.

The Gratiaen Trust is, and has been, an enabling and enriching Sri Lankan institution," Jeganathan said from his native Colombo, where he lives and works, in a conference call with senior editors at South Focus, late last night, I am honored to be associated with it."

The Gratiaen Trust was founded by Booker Prize winning, Sri Lankan born writer Michael Ondaatje, to support creative writing by Sri Lankans; previous winners have included some of the finest writers the country has produced.
