Door to Door Storage Partners with University of Texas Trash to Treasure 2009 to Keep Tons Out of Landfill Storage Industry Pioneer to Help University of Texas Student Group Collect Discarded Items to Raise Funds and Create a Resource for Cool, Cheap Goods on Campus Seattle, WA (PRWEB) March 26, 2009 Door to Door Storage, Inc., a leading national provider of portable self-storage containers and moving services, announced that it will collaborate for a third year with students at The University of Texas at Austin on the 2009 Trash to Treasure effort by donating the use of 10 portable self-storage containers. The portable self-storage containers will be delivered to the UT Austin campus to be used on-site to sort and store items donated by students leaving the dorms at the end of the school year. Trash to Treasure 2009, presented by the University Co-op, is a huge goods recycling program run by the UT Austin Campus Environmental Center, an agency of Student Government. The containers from Door to Door Storage in Austin will be utilized when students' unwanted belongings are collected during move out in May, then recycled in a huge garage sale when school starts in August. Donated items will be collected between May 13 and 24, 2009, with the 2009 Garage Sale taking place on August 23, 2009. Door to Door Storage has played a key role in the event and will now participate for a third consecutive year. During Door to Door's participation, over 90 tons of waste has been kept out of landfills by this event and last year's event help raised more than $14,000 for student-run environmental programs at The University of Texas at Austin, such as recycling and energy conservation. "Trash to Treasure 2009 is highly anticipated by our students. Last year our volunteers gave more than 800 hours of their time to plan and staff this event," said Karen Blaney, Staff Advisor, CEC. "The assistance of Door to Door Storage is greatly appreciated as we are able to use the storage containers to sort and protect the items we collect." The CEC provides an opportunity for students to promote environmental stewardship and implement numerous projects that will have a positive impact on the campus environment at UT Austin. The CEC is the main organizer of the Trash to Treasure 2009 program. "Door to Door Storage is very pleased to once again participate in the Trash to Treasure 2009 program and partner with students at The University of Texas at Austin for a third year running," said Annette Jacobs, president and CEO, Door to Door Storage. "We feel that our efforts to save tons of waste going to the landfill and to help raise money for the CEC are an important part of giving back to the communities we serve." More than 100 volunteers are needed for the 2009 Trash to Treasure program. For every shift worked, a volunteer helps raise $50 for the environment and prevents 75 pounds of stuff from entering the landfill.
