Gay Author Arrested During Launch Party of His New Book, Smoking Cigarettes Reginald L. Hall, author of Memoir: Delaware County Prison, and Smoking Cigarettes was arrested Wednesday night outside of a Philadelphia night club and restaurant Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) April 11, 2005 -- Immediately following the end of the launch party for Reginald L. Halls controversial novel, Smoking Cigarettes, police entered the Reef Caribbean Lounge located at 3rd and South Street in Philadelphia, and placed the author under arrest.
It was unclear to the 30 plus onlookers why Mr. Hall was arrested. However, a police commander told the authors publicist that a warrant was being executed based upon a complaint and tip they received from the authors ex-lover. The previous night, the ex-lover heckled the author while he was on-air during the Golden Girl radio show on Power 99 fm in Philadelphia, according to listeners.
During the arrest, Mr. Hall collapsed and fell onto the sidewalk. He remained in handcuffs, semi-conscious for close to 20 minutes before EMS personnel transported Hall to a local hospital.
Smoking Cigarettes is a new novel that explores the world of young Rashad Smith, a 23 year old Philadelphia gay male that gets involved in highly sexually charged relationships, which at times, were violent and also led to a murder. The author is being promoted as the male Zane, in reference to the female novelist of popular erotica.
Few authors have as much passion for becoming a great writer as Reginald does." said Earl Cox, President and Chief Executive of Writersandpoets.com, LLC, the authors publisher. Smoking Cigarettes is the authors second book and it reflects a tremendous amount of growth as both a writer and his maturity for such a young man. I am confident that he will overcome this obstacle and continue his literary pursuits."
Attending the party were local and national celebrity authors such as mentor Brenda L. Thomas, urban novelist Nikki Turner, hip-hop lit writer Brandon McCalla, Shawna Grundy and others. Halls mother, family and approximately 100 friends and fans attended the party. Hall is currently writing the sequel to Smoking Cigarettes called Ecstasy which is due to be completed in summer 2005.
