New birdJam Owl Module for the Apple iPod Now Available

New birdJam Module for the Apple iPod Creates Instant Access to In-depth Vocalizations of 22 North American Owl Species Based on CD from the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology

(PRWEB) April 2, 2009 -- birdJam, the popular bird song identification tool for the Apple iPod, has released a new module with nearly 200 vocalizations for 22 North American Owl species. The new birdJam module is based upon the "Voices of North American Owls," a comprehensive two-CD set published by the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.

A companion booklet to the Cornell CD set quotes Donald Kroodsman, author of "The Singing Life of Birds, describing the CD set as, "The best of the best." The Cornell booklet also quotes Scott Weidensaul, author of "Of a Feather: A Brief History of American Birding," commenting that the CD set is, "By far the most comprehensive collection of North American owl vocalizations ever produced."

The birdJam North American owl playlists for the Apple iPod provide instant access to multiple vocalizations for each species. The intricate calls range from common territorial songs to many lesser known vocalizations variously described as caterwauling, hoo-awing, screaming, hissing, chittering, trilling and whinnys. The playlists include definitive photographs complete with field marks for identification purposes.

Thousands of birders use birdJam's comprehensive collections for the Apple iPod which now include more than 1,000 bird species for North America, Mexico and Costa Rica, and dozens of North American frogs and toads. birdJam collections are available for all Apple IPod models except the Shuffle, including the Apple iPod Nano, Classic, Touch and iPhone.

Widely acknowledged as extremely fast and easy to use, birdJam has been reviewed in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, BirdWatcher's Digest, Birder's World, ABA Birding Magazine and many other magazines, newspapers, and by blog authors such as Sharon Stiteler at www.birdchick.com and Donald and Lillian Stokes at http://stokesbirdingblog.blogspot.com/.
