Hayward, CA (PRWEB) April 15, 2009 Art educators filled the seats of an Introduction to Manga for Classroom Instruction workshop presented at the California Art Educator Association 2008 Conference. Every art educator raised their hand when asked if their students were interested in manga, the Japanese version of comic illustration and storytelling. This recognition confirmed for Sakura of America (Sakura), the manga workshop sponsor, its goal of encouraging teachers to utilize manga as a vehicle to engage students in learning core drawing fundamentals, and employ graphic storytelling to enhance literacy, creative writing, and history lessons. Sakura videotaped and has posted the entire Introduction to Manga for Classroom Instruction workshop presentation on TeacherTube®.com and YouTube.com. View the segments on TeacherTube.com, an online video resource for educators at: http://www.teachertube.com/uvideos.php?UID=234608. The presentation includes manga and anime history, terminology, and the connection between traditional drawing and the manga-comic style. Sakura will empower teachers with a condensed version of the workshop at the National Art Educators Association (NAEA) 2009 Conference, located in Minneapolis, MN, April 17 - 21, 2009, booth number 440. Workshop presenters are professional manga artists affiliated with Manga Start, an art education resource that promotes learning art foundations, and provides manga-comic drawing lessons. Volumes one through four of the Manga Start Basic Fundamental Drawing lessons and accompanying lesson plans will be given to NAEA educators attending the workshop. "The collaboration between Manga Start and Sakura stemmed from a common desire to provide resources for art education," states Phuong-Mai Bui-Quang, Founder of Manga Start and Creative Director of P.M.B.Q. Studios. "The goal of our consortium of manga artists is to promote manga illustration based on a traditional fine art education. We saw the educator's light bulb go on when we explained how to use manga to teach basic drawing, character development, and storytelling techniques." A long time proponent of art education, Sakura's goal is to assist educators with their efforts to inspire and sustain the interest of their students in learning. "We are promoting a shift in how traditional subjects are taught, and using the manga genre of character and storytelling to connect with students. In order to effectively reach a nationwide audience, we posted the videotapes on TeacherTube and YouTube," states Peter Ouyang, Sakura of America Vice President of Marketing and Product Development.
