Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) April 13, 2009 -- Thai Trade Center Los Angeles (www.thaitradeusa.com) and Phoenix's Thai Restaurants are teaming up to host the Valley of the Sun's first "Thai Restaurant Week", this week April 13-19, 2009. The event brings a gourmet flair to a celebration of Songkran, the Thai New Year.

"We extend an invitation for everyone to try the delicious Thai dining available in Phoenix," says Chantira J. Vivatrat, Executive Director of Thai Trade Center Los Angeles.

During the period of April 13-19, Thai Restaurants in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area will be offering big discounts, new tastes and special entertainment. Individual restaurants will offer a variety of different events including Thai music and "Muay Thai" kickboxing; new recipes featuring the exotic Sweet Tamarind; a wine tasting dinner; and of course, plenty of traditional favorites such as Pad Thai, Green Chicken Curry and Tom Yam Goong soup.

A full list of participating restaurants and activities will be posted on: www.azcentral.com, www.thaitradeusa.com and the Facebook group "Thai Restaurant Week Phoenix".

Thai Trade Center is providing all participating restaurants with several products imported from Thailand, including fruit drinks such as lychee, tamarind and mango juice; and delicious fresh Sweet Tamarind, which is grown only in Thailand. The imported fruit juices and fresh fruit are rich in taste and heart-healthy antioxidants.

Sweet Tamarind's sister fruit, Sour Tamarind, is already revered as one of the secrets of Thai cooking, as the cornerstone of the unique sauce for favorite dishes such as Pad Thai. It is also popular in Mexico. Sweet Tamarind, which grows only in Thailand (and is known as "makham wahn") is popular served fresh as an after dinner dessert or as special ingredient in sauces. During Thai Restaurant Week, it will be also find a new home in drinks such as a Sweet Tamarind version of a martini and tasty pairings with meat and fish.

"We wish to introduce Sweet Tamarind to Phoenix diners, as a new taste that is unique to Thai cuisine," says Ms. Vivatrat.

In addition to Thai Trade Center Los Angeles, Thai Restaurant Week is also sponsored by Chang Beer and Mekhong, who are offering a Free Trip to Thailand for restaurant guests who complete a survey form about their Thai food favorites. The winner will be drawn from the surveys received (Purchase of alcoholic beverage is not required. Terms and conditions apply).
