Only 3% of Americans Follow a Healthy Lifestyle - All Spirit Fitness Editor Offers Solutions

Reuters reports that only 3% of Americans follow the four rules of healthy living. Janiss Garza, editor-in-chief of All Spirit Fitness (http://www.allspiritfitness.com) believes that this is because people don't realize that a fit lifestyle is a simple one to maintain.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 26, 2005 -- On April 25, Reuters reported shocking statistics: according to a Michigan study, few Americans follow the four basic rules of healthy living. In fact, only 3% don't smoke, exercise regularly, eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day and keep their weight in a healthy range.

"These figures are appalling," says Janiss Garza, editor-in-chief of All Spirit Fitness (http://www.allspiritfitness.com), a website that dedicates itself to helping people lead healthier, happier lives. "Living healthy -- in other words, living well -- is really very simple. It's just a matter of establishing a few healthy habits and sticking with them."

The Reuters story pointed out that Americans were most successful at not smoking -- 76% are nonsmokers. A significant number, but one that Garza sees as too low, is the percent that maintain a healthy weight. 40% of Americans claim to have a healthy BMI (Body Mass Index) of between 18.5 and 25. Where Americans fall short is when it comes to regular exercise and their daily consumption of fruits and vegetables -- less than a quarter of them did either.

"Getting enough fruits and vegetables is as easy as eating an orange or banana as your daily snack and having salad and a second helping of veggies with dinner," says Garza. "Have a fruit smoothie for breakfast or a veggie omelet. You can take baby carrots with you to munch on during the day, or a box of raisins. Let the candy machine grow cobwebs! As for exercise, take a walk after dinner instead of having dessert. Take the stairs whenever possible. Schedule in workouts like you do the rest of your life. If you want to watch your favorite shows, lay out an exercise mat in front of the television and exercise during the commercials -- you can fit in 15 or more minutes of exercise during a one-hour show that way!"

Garza is filled with ideas on inspiring people to lead healthier lives. In the three and a half years that she's been in charge of All Spirit Fitness, she has written or edited more than 800 pages of content to help people create a fit lifestyle that they'll enjoy. The site serves up over 150,000 page views a month and continues to grow in popularity.

"Perhaps only 3% of Americans follow those basic healthy living rules, but I bet the percentage is a lot higher for those who are visitors to allspiritfitness.com," Garza asserts. "We know how to make fitness fun -- and easy!"
