Danville, CA (PRWEB) April 29, 2005 -- Catholics@Work, a fellowship of individuals who explore how to actively live ones beliefs in the workplace, (www.catholicsatwork.org), today announced its May 2005 breakfast meeting will feature highly accomplished basketball player and coach Lenny Wilkens. Coach Wilkens, a devoted Catholic, is an inspirational speaker who will discuss how his faith has guided and significantly influenced his career and personal life. The Catholics@Work breakfast event will be held at Crow Canyon Country Club, 711 Silver Lake Drive, Danville, CA 94526 on Tuesday, May 10, 2005. A full buffet breakfast is served starting at 6:45am (Mass is offered at 6:15am at the same location.) Cost is $20 for members and $27 for non-members. To register visit http://www.catholicsatwork.org/MayEvent.aspx.

Coach Wilkens earned election to the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach, and is the only person to be named to the NBA's all-time 50 greatest players list AND top-10 coaches list. He holds the rare distinction of coaching all teams that he performed with as an NBA player for 15 seasons -- Seattle, Portland, Cleveland and Atlanta. Coach Wilkens began his coaching career in 1969 as player/coach of the Seattle Supersonics (1969-72) and Portland Trail Blazers (1974-75), and he most recently served as Head Coach for the Toronto Raptors.

As role models, it's important for us to give back to the communities in which we work and live," said Coach Wilkens. Through our faith and its practice, we can acknowledge and influence the behavior and reactions of others."

Catholics at Work was inspired by observing the intersection of two trends in society. The first is a growing sense of 'lack of purpose not only among average Catholics, but also among society as a whole. This is clearly demonstrated by the great success of Rick Warrens book The Purpose Driven Life", said Rick Medeiros, President of Catholics@Work. The second is the sense that Catholics, in the workplace, often feel alone and doubt their ability to actively extend their beliefs into practical applications in their everyday work environment."

Catholics@Work is indeed fortunate to have the opportunity to have Coach Wilkens bring to life his personal experiences driven by his Catholic faith," Mr. Medeiros, continued.

An advocate of education and staying in school, as well as being involved in community activities, Coach Wilkens holds a BA in Economics from Providence College, and Honorary Doctorates of Humanities from Providence College, Seattle University and St. Francis College. He participates in and supports the NBA Stay in School Program, Shoes for Kids, March of Dimes, the Arthur Ashe Foundation, the Make a Wish Foundation, Seattle Community College, the Lenny Wilkens Scholarship Fund and Odessa Brown Children's Clinic.
