Dalai Lama to Give Public Speech at Albany's Palace Theatre

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama will visit downtown Albany to give a public talk titled "Compassionate Ethics in Difficult Times." Hosted by the World Ethical Foundations Consortium (WEFC), the event will take place at 2 p.m. on May 6 at the Palace Theatre, located at 19 Clinton Avenue.

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama will visit downtown Albany to give a public talk titled "Compassionate Ethics in Difficult Times." Hosted by the World Ethical Foundations Consortium (WEFC), the event will take place at 2 p.m. on May 6 at the Palace Theatre, located at 19 Clinton Avenue.

In previous addresses, His Holiness has described compassion as a fundamental human quality:
"True compassion is universal in scope. It is accompanied by a feeling of responsibility. To act altruistically, concerned only for the welfare of others, with no selfish or ulterior motives, is to affirm a sense of universal responsibility."

Developing ethical principles based on compassion is a concept that the WEFC and organizers hope will encourage audience members to work together to expand humanitarian efforts both in the Albany community and throughout the world.

His Holiness, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, is recognized worldwide for his promotion of human rights. In 2007, the U.S. Congress gave him the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest award Congress can give to civilians.

Tickets for the event are available beginning Friday, April 24, at 10 a.m. in person at the Palace Theatre Box Office, by calling Ticketmaster charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000, or through http://www.ticketmaster.com. Prices range from $85 to $55. The doors will open at 12 p.m., two hours prior to the start of the event to permit a required security screening.
