Usher to Partner With UN Foundation and Nothing but Nets to Engage Youth in Service to Combat Malaria

One net saves a life. Saturday, April 25 is World Malaria Day.

(Vocus) April 23, 2009 -- Grammy-award winning recording artist Usher Raymond is teaming up with the United Nations Foundation and its Nothing But Nets campaign to create a platform for youth to save lives. Working through his New Look Foundation, Raymond and the UN Foundation will provide opportunities for underprivileged youth to take action through service and make a difference with global issues.

"I am proud to be a part of an exciting partnership with the United Nations Foundation and its Nothing But Nets campaign," said Raymond. "This initiative sends an important message: youth, regardless of their backgrounds, can make a difference in this world by taking action through service to save lives. Anyone can make a difference. All it takes is $10 to send a net and save a life."

This Saturday is World Malaria Day. The United Nations has called for an end to malaria related deaths. Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. Inspired by sports columnist Rick Reilly, tens of thousands of people have joined the campaign that was created by the United Nations Foundation in May 2006. Founding campaign partners include the National Basketball Association's NBA Cares, the people of The United Methodist Church and Sports Illustrated. It costs only $10 to provide a long-lasting insecticide-treated bed net that can prevent this deadly disease. Visit www.NothingButNets.net to send a net and save a life.
