These Chainsaw Carving Students are a Cut above - Congratulations are in Order At the 20th annual Quilceda Wood Carvers Contest, held April 23rd and 24th, 2005, at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, Lance Rigby, Donna Genovese, and Dan Martinez proved they had what it takes to make it in the Chainsaw Carving business. These 3 chainsaw carvers all won ribbons and acclaim from the judges and from the public. The George Kenny School of Chainsaw Carving is especially proud to have had them as students. Lance Rigby - advanced division 1st place - Heron; 2nd place- Eagle
Lance Rigby, 37, had a home cleaning business and did carpentry work. He quit those jobs to concentrate on chainsaw carving full time. His wife is supportive of his new career. He has a new baby and just bought his first house. Lance can be contacted at 360-275-7414.
Donna Genovese - intermediate division 1st Place - Crane; Honorable mention - Owl
Donna Genovese, 46, was a registered nurse before taking the course from the George Kenny School of Chainsaw Carving. She has a husband and two children. She had attempted to earn a living from art when living in Pennsylvania but found that impossible. Less than a year after learning how to chainsaw carve, she is now at it full time. Dan Martinez- intermediate division 2nd Place - Fish Dan Martinez, 55, a Vietnam vet, had a long career as a general contractor. He took the chainsaw carving class about a year ago. Now he works full time in the business. He helps instruct new students and does custom carvings. His progress has been excellent. He can be reached at 425-888-3223.
