New Frontiers Open at ALT-C 2005

Registration has opened for the 12th International Conference of the Association for Learning Technology, the UKs largest academic conference on learning technology, to be held at the University of Manchester between 6 and 8 September 2005. This year the conference focuses on Exploring the frontiers of e-learning: borders, outposts and migration".

The conference will focus on Exploring the frontiers of e-learning: borders, outposts and migration".

All three keynote speakers are internationally renowned for their ground-breaking roles in learning technology, for crossing borders and for uniting distant learning communities. Carol Twigg, President and CEO, National Center for Academic Transformation, New York, has been featured in Newsweek as one of the 50 most influential thinkers in the information revolution. http://www.center.rpi.edu/

Etienne Wenger is an independent thinker, researcher, consultant, author, and speaker, best known for his work on communities of practice. His new research project, "Learning for a small planet," is a broad, cross-sectoral investigation of the nature of learning and learning institutions. http://www.ewenger.com/

Five invited speakers -- Tom Boyle, Sal Cooke, Stephen Downes, Oleg Liber and Gary Miller -- will explore the themes of the conference: design and development; architectures and infrastructures; implementation; collaboration; and quality and standards. Nearly 300 submissions were received for the programme, including research papers, workshops and symposia. The Programme Committee members -- drawn from a wide variety of educational and commercial organisations -- have selected a stimulating range of presentations to cater for all sections of the learning technology community and for those new to the field.
