Chevron Richmond Refinery and SBC Sponsors Over 200 East Bay High School and College Students for Young Leaders Advocacy Learning Day

Presented by BWOPAs non-profit organization, The Training Institute for Leadership Enrichment, this years Annual Lobby Day Sacramento will offer hands-on learning experience for over 200 East Bay students to meet with state elected officials, top policy makers, lobbyists and legislative staff to discuss such critical issues which impact their everyday lives.

(PRWEB) May 17, 2005 -- Whether it be reducing violence against women, widespread gentrification, loan and mortgage denials, disproportionate representation among populations with AIDS, heart disease or breast cancer, African-American communities continue to address formidable challenges every day.

Presented by BWOPAs non-profit organization, The Training Institute for Leadership Enrichment, this years Annual Lobby Day will offer hands-on learning experience for participating students to meet with state elected officials, top policy makers, lobbyists and legislative staff to discuss such critical issues which impact their everyday lives. Prior to the sojourn to Sacramento, students will receive training as grassroots advocates from local community activists and lobbyists. Effective Grassroots Advocacy 101 is a two-hour workshop designed to give community leaders and students a working knowledge of the lobbying process.

Over 200 students will participation in this years Lobby Day to Sacramento. Participating schools include Castlemont High School, McClymonds High School, Lionel Wilson Preparatory Academy, Kennedy High School and Laney, Merritt and Contra Costa Community Colleges, along with adult attendees coming as far as Stockton and Fresno.

Student scholarships have been made possible in part by Chevron Richmond Refinery, SBC, The Willie McGee Foundation, Epaperless, Davillier Sloan, Strategic Urban Development Alliance, The MSE Group, The Parish Group and Laney and Merritt Colleges.

Classroom Preparation Workshop will take place at Peralta Community College District Boardroom 333 East 8th Street, Oakland, across from Laney College Football Field

Lobby Day bus pick up Peralta Commmunity College District parking lot and stops for pick-up in Richmond at Hwy 580 Park & Ride
