Treston Helps Manufacturers Reduce the Risk of Repetitive Strain Injury

Repetitive strain injury (RSI) is estimated to cost UK companies £300 million a year in lost productivity and 2.8 million days in absenteeism. Due to these high figures the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) has been pressuring the Government to do more to tackle the problem. In response, industrial furniture manufacturer Treston has announced details of how its range of ergonomic workbenches, trolleys and chairs can help employers reduce the risk of RSI.

Newbury, Berkshire (PRWeb UK) May 13, 2009 -- Repetitive strain injury (RSI) is estimated to cost UK companies £300 million a year in lost productivity and 2.8 million days in absenteeism.

Latest Health and Safety estimates are that 213,000 people have developed a musculoskeletal upper limb or neck disorder from excessive strain at work. This figure would be lower if more companies used ergonomic furniture that can be adjusted to suit the worker and task being performed.

"RSI hampers productivity, causes absenteeism and damages profits as a result," said Treston's UK Operations Director Tapani Poytaniemi, "Using ergonomic furniture offers manufacturers numerous benefits: as well as reducing the risks of strain related injuries, it can improve staff morale and productivity from being able to perform tasks more comfortably for longer periods of time."

The height of Treston's ergonomic workbenches, chairs and other industrial furniture can be easily adjusted to suit that of workers. The strain of performing tasks can be further reduced by arranging workbenches and mobile storage bins into ergonomic workflow patterns.

Treston's workbenches can also be customised with a variety of modular accessories, including tool racks, storage bins and additional shelving. This enables components and tools to be kept within easy reach and minimises the movements workers need to make.

Employers are legally obligated to provide a safe working environment, and there have already been RSI related cases where companies have had to pay compensation after being found guilty of negligence. Employers also have an ageing and more injury prone workforce to contend with. So adopting ergonomic principles is becoming a legal, financial and practical imperative, rather than just an option.

Details of Treston's full range of adjustable workbenches, trolleys and other industrial furniture can be found on its website www.trestonltd.co.uk, along with further information on the benefits of harnessing ergonomics in the workplace.
