To ensure the minimum amount of out gas in a vacuum environment, the Clean Linear Actuator product undergoes special handling and uses parts fabricated in a proprietary process. Clean Motors are constructed of non-volatile materials, thoroughly cleaned using ultrasonic equipment, and then vacuum-baked at high temperature to extract contaminants. In addition to Teflon® wires and high temperature windings, Haydon™ Clean Motors contain stainless steel bearings with special lubrication. Out-gassing results from a lack of motor cleanliness, often created by contaminants present during the manufacturing process and even the slightest contact with a human hand. The Haydon™ Clean Motor products are processed to consider all possible contamination sources and are then sealed in double bags for handling under clean-room protocols.

Available in three different levels, Clean Linear Actuators operate according to a class number which indicates the level of intensity in which the actuator will be cleaned. As the class number decreases the actuator will be cleaned in a more intensive manner.

• Linear Actuators are ideal for applications requiring a combination of precise positioning, rapid motion and long life. Typical applications include X-Y tables, medical equipment, semiconductor handling, telecommunications equipment, valve control, and numerous other uses.

Class 3 motors make use of low out-gassing lubrications and materials, and are designed for environments down to 10-4 torr. With this motor, HSS-16 is used in place of standard lubricants and rust preventatives.

Class 2 linear actuator motors use the same materials as class 3; however, each component is subjected to a special cleaning process. In assembly, actuators are handled with gloves and packaged in a sealed bag for shipment. Class 2 actuators are designed for low out-gassing in environments down to 10-6 torr.

Class 1 motors employ much stricter piece part cleaning, and are subjected to a final cleaning process post assembly. Like the class 2 motor, class 1 motors are handled with gloves and are packaged in an additional sealed bag for double bagged protection. All assembly is done inside a class 1000 clean room. Low out-gassing for class 1 actuators is fit for environments down to 10-8 torr.
