Designing Educational Facilities, from University Campuses to Public Schools, will be Examined in a Series of Executive Education Seminars from Harvard Design School Architects, urban planners, and real estate and building industry professionals are invited to participate in executive education seminars focused on educational facilities design. (PRWEB) May 19, 2005 -- This summer, among the more than 35 executive education seminars offered by Harvard Design School, five will focus on the process of planning and designing educational facilities.
The design needs of public schools and those of university campuses will be addressed in a pair of seminars that explores the differing issues associated with each. Two other seminars focus on student centers and campus residential communities, respectively, while another will introduce participants to an environmental/sustainable approach to campus planning and design.
The seminars offered include: - Student Centers: Hub of the Campus, June 27-28 - Campus Residential Communities: Strategic Planning and Design, June 27-28 - The Sustainable Campus: Restorative Pathways of Growth on Campus, June 29 - Public School Planning and Design, June 29-30 - Planning and Design of the American Campus, July 20-21
Student Centers: Hub of the Campus As the social center of campuses, these facilities provide the broader educational environment necessary to promote beyond-the-classroom learning. Integral to the success of these facilities is the planning and design of their food-service components. This seminar addresses the implications of campus-wide food-service operations on the programming and design of a student center.
Campus Residential Communities: Strategic Planning and Design This seminar includes an overview of trends in campus residential communities, comprehensive housing system master plans, programming for student residential communities, student housing design, construction systems and costs, green initiatives, and associated programs such as dining, academics, and recreation.
The Sustainable Campus: Restorative Pathways of Growth on Campus This team-taught seminar brings together the disciplines of campus planning, landscape architecture, and architecture. Intended for architects, planners, landscape architects, educators, and engineers, the seminar introduces participants to current, measurable examples of sustainable/environmentally informed planning and design as well as emerging frameworks of best practice that support independent action in architecture, planning, design education, and public policy.
Public School Planning and Design Intended for both architects and school administrators interested in the process of school planning and design, this two-day seminar explores global trends in education and teaching; current influences driving the design of K--12 facilities; new types of learning spaces, from individual-student modules to large-group studios; and what twenty-first-century schools might look like.
Planning and Design of the American Campus Participants in this seminar will explore why colleges and universities undertake physical planning, how planning is implemented, and how plans vary in response to differing needs, circumstances, and environments. The program provides a variety of perspectives on how to address campus-planning needs, engage in the planning process, and assess issues of campus design and placemaking.
