Texas-Based Heavy Metal Band Freak13 Line Out Major Gigs, Record With Mrs. Voorhees Heavy metal band FREAK13 line out Screamfest appearance, opening slot for Powerman 5000 and record Friday the 13th-inspired song with Besty Palmer, the actress who played Pamela Voorhees, Jason's mom (PRWEB) May 24, 2005 -- After returning to their home base of Texas from a headlining gig at the Whisky-A-Go-Go in Hollywood and an appearance at Necrocomicon, the 25th anniversary celebration of the Friday the 13th franchise, FREAK13 are announcing several new projects and major gigs for the remainder of 2005.
We are very optimistic after our experience in Los Angeles and we are ready to dive right into several major projects," said bassist/vocalist Chester Moore.
One of the projects is the competition of a re-recording of their underground hit Crystal Lake" with none other than Mrs. Voorhees herself, Betsy Palmer.
The song is obviously about Friday the 13th, but it is unique in that we tell the story of Jason and his mother who was the central figure in the first movie. We contacted Ms. Palmer who played Mrs. Voorhees in Friday the 13th about doing a voiceover for the song and as it turned out, she loved it, so we recently recorded her part and are finishing up mixing of the song," Moore said.
Her narration in the second half of the song is absolutely chilling. Plus, in the chorus she does her infamous 'kill her mommy and it sounds just like it did back in 1980."
FREAK13 will release the song as part of a dvd/cd release tentatively titled FREAK13: Alive at Sunset that will include a full concert from the bands stint in LA, interviews with horror celebrities, backstage footage, band interviews, music videos and a disc with the new recording of Crystal Lake" and four brand new songs.
Right now were looking at an October release date because we have been asked to play Screamfest in Florida which is the biggest, baddest horror show in the South, so were working to have it ready by then," Moore said.
Screamfest runs Oct. 14-16 and will feature appearances by dozens of horror celebrities and a variety of punk, rock and metal acts.
Its a real honor to be asked to play there and we couldnt be happier about it."

The band have also landed a major gig at the US Indie Expo (www.usindie.com) Aug. 23 in Beaumont, TX supporting Powerman 5000, Carbon 9 and Loaded Moses. The five-day festival also includes appearances by the Misfits, Skid Row, Quiet Riot and a variety of platinum and gold-selling recording artists.
To share the same stage as Powerman 5000 and the Misfits not to mention all of the other great bands is awesome and we will certainly give the audience one hell of a show," said guitarist Scot Lackey.
The band is also working on a line of clothing with Fright Rags (www.fright-rags.com), a well-respected company in the horror/gothic community.
Fright Rags makes killer shirts and they are doing a line under the FREAK13 label. These shirts are inspired by a variety of horror movies and cool, dark imagery and they are top quality. FREAK13 and Fright Rags is a true match made in hell," Lackey said.
Look for a sneak preview of the clothing on the bands Web site at www.freak13.net and keep up with the bands concert schedule and myriad projects.
Weve got lots of good stuff going on right now and we have even more in the works," said drummer Shelton Borel.
I guess there really is no rest for the wicked."
