Lights, Camera, Motorcycle: A Minuteman Documentary

Minuteman Career & Technical High School, the name defines student aspirations - that is to say Minuteman provides an environment where students can learn and apply technical skills in a career or as a means to a creative result. Recently two seniors at Minuteman, Montana Mirabella and Matt Macomber, were able to incorporate both technical and creative skills into an exceptionally produced documentary titled "Kustom Leafs".

The documentary focuses on their senior Capstone project documenting the process of designing and building a custom motorcycle from concept to completion. Montana previously designed two mini-bikes in junior high. As a senior, Montana was ready to apply his years of training to his passion. His inspiration, creativity and enthusiasm are portrayed accurately by Matt, the documentary's videographer. Matt followed Montana's motorcycle building process, and added, "…it's adaptable..." in agreement with his friend's notion that the engineering process provides a recipe for success. Matt reviewed many documentaries to gain a better understanding of telling a story through the use of camera angles and editing styles. Just as Montana stated, "I gain a bit more experience every year," pointing out that the building process went smoother than previous bike projects. Minuteman taught him to think differently about the creative component, as well as, project management. "Minuteman helped me understand the engineering process which can be applied to many aspects," Montana stated.

The creative partners plan to use the skills gained at Minuteman towards additional training in College. Montana has been accepted at Wentworth's Industrial Design program and Matt has been accepted at RIT for Film and Animation.

Both seniors agree and are appreciative that Minuteman Career & Technical High School, and especially the encouragement of Electromechanical Robotics instructors John Mollica and Patrick McColl and Drafting instructor, Paul Goodhue, helped prepare them for next year's endeavors.
