Kula Yoga Project Announces Newly Expanded Space Tribeca Yoga Studio Celebrates 3rd Anniversary with a Glorious Renovation Manhattan, NY (PRWEB) May 31, 2005 -- Kula Yoga Project, a freestyle vinyasa studio based in downtown Manhattan, today celebrates its 3rd year anniversary with a newly renovated and deliciously inviting space. Nestled in a 4th floor walkup, Kula Yoga is a true Tribeca gem, offering a cozy, unpretentious venue for the citys yogis. The teaching is inspired by founder and director Schuyler Grants marriage of Astanga flow with Iyengar precision, creating a practice she calls Freestyle Vinyasa - sweaty, intelligent and ecstatic.
Kula means 'intentional community' in Sanskrit. Schuyler grew up on a small commune in rural Northern California, and after 10 years in New York she wanted to find a way to blend the best of both worlds: An urban center that celebrates a strong yoga practice and a true sense of community. Three years later, that vision has manifested more successfully than she ever could have hoped. We have formed a diverse and dedicated crew at Kula that truely treat the studio as home," said founder Schuyler Grant. In this era of big business yoga, we aimed to create an environment that offered an organically grown practice. At 28 Warren Street we dont serve McYoga."
There is a real is a litmus test for aspiring Kulis. You must first find the unmarked door behind the African music stand, and then climb 3 steep flights of stairs. What lies ahead, however, is a warm, inviting space filled with rich color, inspiring works from local artists, and of course, a good schvitz. The newly expanded studio includes a lounge area, changing rooms and an even larger space to deepen your practice. Kulas teachers, calling most of the students by first name, are dedicated to fostering the intentional community that is the Kula.
Kula also offers escapes from the concrete jungle. Schuyler and fellow Kuli Alison Novi lead intensive retreats, from the Catskills to Costa Rica, to deepen their practice of yoga and pleasure. Details on these retreats, as well as class information and schedules, can be found on the website at www.kulayoga.com.
