Jerusalem/Needham (PRWEB) May 27, 2009 Oridion Systems Ltd. (SIX Swiss Exchange: ORIDN) today announced that an extensive medical research study conducted at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation on the value of continuous Microstream® capnography monitoring in improving patient safety during procedural sedation was published in the May issue of Gastroenterology. The article has also been highlighted as the Editor's Essential Reading on the website of Gastroenterology - the official journal of the AGA (American Gastroenterological Association) Institute. Oridion provides monitoring solutions that enable the clinician to simply and accurately assess a patient's ventilatory status. By enabling the earliest detection of a respiratory event, and immediate feedback on the efficacy of treatment, Oridion Microstream capnography improves patient safety and patient outcomes. A short summary of this published study is described below. This research study confirms the clinical benefits of continuous waveform CO2 monitoring using Oridion Microstream® capnography to reduce the incidence of hypoxemia, severe hypoxemia, and apnea in procedural sedation. These benefits persisted even after oxygen supplementation.
Results demonstrated that capnographic monitoring of respiratory activity significantly reduced the frequency of hypoxemia, severe hypoxemia, and apnea. The benefit of capnography persisted even after oxygen supplementation. The authors concluded that capnography monitoring functions as an early warning system for hypoxemia and may further improve patient safety during gastrointestinal endoscopy.
Oridion is the global market leader in capnography monitoring and its innovative solutions help to improve patient safety and patient outcomes. Oridion Microstream technology is the standard of care in ventilation monitoring. For further Oridion information please contact
