Racing for Children in Shanghai with Pete Olson American racer Pete Olson scores two top-ten finishes at the Shanghai International F1 Circuit while spreading the word for the Racing for Children program Shanghai, China (PRWEB) May 31, 2009 The roar of a grid full of formula race cars putting out a combined 3000+ horsepower; umbrella girls, television cameras, marching bands, the noise of the crowded stands in one of the most exciting and demanding race tracks in the world - such was the setting last weekend at the famous Shanghai International F1 Circuit, for the latest race event in Pete Olson's Racing for Children program which uses the glamour and excitement of worldwide auto racing to spread the word for needy children. The purpose of the program is to use the excitement and unique venue of professional auto racing to increase awareness of the Christian Children's Fund ["CCF"] in the hopes of finding more sponsors for children, through having stories about the Racing for Children program published in newspapers and magazines throughout the world. The program also advertises the Christian Children's Fund website in different race series. After winning the Bridgestone Canada F2000 Championship for the past two years in a row, American racer Pete Olson moved to China last fall to race 175mph Formula Renault race cars for FRD Motorsports in the 2009 Asia Formula Renault Championship, as well as act as chief instructor for the team. This year, Olson's striking silver and blue car will sport the Christian Children's Fund logo at international racetracks in Zhuhai, Beijing, Chengdu, as well as another race weekend at Shanghai's demanding Formula One ["F1"] circuit, which will be part of a celebrity race weekend which will include actors such as action star Jet Li. Just last weekend Olson scored two top-ten finishes in his debut Formula Renault races, against a grid of seasoned Formula Renault veterans. "It's a work in progress" said Olson. "We were trying different things with set up and it was tough to be a bit off the pace, but we made some real improvements with the car this weekend and I am confident towards the remainder of the season - and we still have twelve races to go." Olson is the only American driver currently competing in the prestigious 175mph China Formula Renault race series, which is watched by over three million television viewers in mainland China each season and featured a live fan attendance of over 101,000 last year. The sponsor of two needy children himself, Olson has used auto racing to promote CCF for the past several years in his auto racing endeavors in the United States and Asia.
