OW2 Announces JOnAS Application Server Java EE 5 (tm) Certification

JOnAS becomes the first certified open source application server based on OSGi (tm) as it completes Java EE 5 (tm) compatibility certification.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) June 1, 2009 -- OW2, the leading consortium in open source middleware, today announced that the open-source application server JOnAS 5 has passed the Java(tm) Enterprise Edition 5 (Java EE 5 (tm)) Compliance Test Suite thus becoming the first OSGi based open-source application server to be Java EE 5 certified.

JOnAS 5 provides unparalleled management features and full service continuity to large-scale mission-critical applications. The JOnAS platform allows for automated reconfiguration and management with no impact on running applications. Moreover, JOnAS seamlessly morphs into a small footprint embedded server to support emerging application domains such as M2M, Home Automation and RFID.

The OSGi-based architecture of JOnAS 5 is the result of five years of community research in component and services models and two years of code rewriting. "The JOnAS 5 architecture based on OSGi services makes it a ideal platform for deploying any Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) building block. With JOnAS, all technical services are available as OSGi bundles," says François Exertier, JOnAS project lead and manager of the Bull R&D team contributing code to the JonAS, JASMINe and EasyBeans projects.

While JOnAS 5 and related OW2 projects constitute an "a la carte" platform paving the way for future Java EE 6 profiles, they provide an immediate solution to reduce administration and development costs:

- The OSGi kernel brings dynamism to services and server management, modularity, extensibility, and makes the application server administration much easier. For example, a service can be interrupted, its configuration changed and restarted without halting the entire application server.

- The EasyBeans EJB3 container provides breakthrough facilities for development and deployment.

- The JASMINe OW2 project provides tools for configuration, deployment and monitoring of complex distributed architectures such as JOnAS clusters. JOnAS clustering solutions now address large scale deployment and dynamic reconfiguration.

OW2 will be showing JOnAS 5 at JavaOne 2009 in San Francisco, June 1-6, on the OW2 booth (#116).

JOnAS 5 will be presented live in track "Core technology: Java EE": "JOnAS: an Open Source Unbreakable Java EE Server Platform" by François Exertier and François Fornaciari (Bull), on 05-JUN-09 (04:10 PM - 05:10 PM), Room: Esplanade 307-310.
