Jody Allen Crowe Reveals the Connection between Prenatal Exposure to Alcohol and School Shootings in "The Fatal Link" and Website Jody Allen Crowe, author of "The Fatal Link" and the accompanying website, has transitioned from his position in school administration to dedicate his full attention as the Executive Director of Healthy Brains For Children, Inc. Through this organization, Crowe sets out to deliver the message that every child has the right to an alcohol-free development and explores the statistics on school shootings in connection to fetal alcohol syndrome and alcohol use during pregnancy. (PRWEB) June 3, 2009 -- Jody Allen Crowe, Executive Director of Healthy Brains for Children, Inc., has launched a mission to ensure that every child has the benefit of an alcohol-free development through research and educating the public on the hazards of pregnancy and exposure to alcohol (http://www.healthybrainsforchildren.org/ProbabilityTool.asp) and its correlation to an increased incidence of behavioral problems in children with fetal alcohol syndrome and school shootings.
"If I were to tell you my father died of lung cancer, what is your first question? Did he smoke? It took us over 40 years to come to this conclusion. If I were to ask you why so many kids are in Special Education, on Ritalin, are diagnosed as ADHD, or are committing violent crimes, what is the first question that comes to mind? My goal is that within 10 years, we will be asking: Was the child prenatally exposed to alcohol?" states Crowe.
"The Fatal Link" reveals an undeniable connection between school shooters and their mothers' consumption of alcohol. His narrative begins in 1966, telling the story of the first school shooting fatality in the nation. He then details his study of five additional school shooters from Minnesota and Wisconsin. He reveals the startling connection of the shootings of forty years ago to the most recent statistics on school shootings, including Jonesboro, Arkansas and Columbine, Colorado. His research reveals the shooters' mothers were either confirmed as drinking heavily or were at a high risk of drinking during their pregnancies and the shooters showed classic characteristics of heavy prenatal exposure to alcohol.
Additionally, the author studied sixty-nine school shooters across the nation to determine their probability of prenatal exposure to alcohol. The last shooter profiled in the book and determined to have a high probability of prenatal exposure to alcohol, Jamar Silar of Knoxville, TN, was identified as such by his attorneys prior to his upcoming trial in Knoxville. This revelation by the Silar attorneys was the first at a trial and the first since Crowe revealed "The Fatal Link" statistics on school shootings and prenatal exposure to alcohol.
Every school shooter in Minnesota and Wisconsin fits the profile of prenatal exposure to alcohol. Four of the six mothers are confirmed to have heavily exposed the shooter to alcohol in utero.
Backed by these case studies and ongoing research, Crowe's goals with Healthy Brains for Children are to:
• Raise awareness in the business community of the devastation of prenatal exposure to alcohol and motivate communities to initiate change.
• Instruct and inform school boards, administrators, and teachers to lead the education of children on the devastation of prenatal exposure to alcohol.
• Conduct effective research on the impact prenatal exposure has on our communities, cities, and nation.
• Instigate policy changes on both local and national levels that support and require alcohol-free pregnancies.
"This problem is huge, with far-reaching consequences and the general public is just uninformed about it; there's a lot of denial," Crowe states. "And I'm sure that I'm going to be up against a lot of people who challenge me, and I welcome it."
