Reduced Risk of Sewerage Spills with New MultiTrode Backup Controller MultiTrode has released two new versions of its new SafeSmart Backup Controller for wastewater lift stations. Most wastewater utilities don't have backup control installed, and when primary control fails they rely on manual intervention until the primary control system has been replaced. Brisbane, Australia (PRWEB) June 5, 2009 -- Wastewater collections systems are under increasing pressure to eliminate spills. For the rare occasions when the primary control fails, an independent backup control system reduces this risk. SafeSmart Backup Controllers (http://www.multitrode.com/backup-controllers), used with a 3-sensor probe (http://www.multitrode.com/liquid-level-probe), are the next generation of backup systems for wastewater lift stations.
Most utilities rely on their telemetry or SCADA system to report a primary control failure - or a primary level device failure. This usually occurs through a comms fail alarm when the telemetry system cannot communicate with the remote RTU. Comms fails are therefore treated as potential spill events and an urgent site visit is required.
When the primary control system has failed, personnel from the utility typically have to stay on site manually operating pumps until the control system has been replaced and commissioned, a process that sometimes takes days.
The new SafeSmart controllers reduce the operational pressure on the organization by providing an automatic backup system.
The SafeSmart family incorporates thermal and seal sensing from the pump, so avoiding the problem of running overheated pumps in backup mode and burning them out.
SafeSmart controllers provide an independent backup system and can run in any wastewater pump station, whether controlled by a PLC, RTU, pump controller, or the next generation MultiSmart pump station manager (http://www.multitrode.com/pump-station-manager).
About MultiTrode MultiTrode, founded in 1986, is a specialist in pump station technology for water and wastewater utilities around the world. The company has offices in the USA, UK and Australia.
