Freakshow Models Bring a Dark Twist to a New Range of Garage Kits

For many years, Special Effects companies have been linked to visions of unparalleled horror, blood and gore. From Hellraiser to The Silence of the Lambs, FX artists have done their best to scare us, frighten us and just plain creep us out with graphic representations of imagery we can only hope we would never see in real life. Now Nimba Creations is bringing us a whole new flavour of nasty delivered right to our front door in the form of Freakshow Models.

Ive always been interested in dark, disturbing, gritty imagery" Says Creative Director Siobhan Hall. A couple of things Ive seen in recent years have really sparked my interest in the old fashioned sideshow, such as the League of Gentlemens Papa Lazaru and his travelling Carnival. Although this was a comedy, it was also murky and at times terrifying, and that was something I wanted us to capture without playing on the 'human suffering that seems to go hand in hand with the concept."

By chance, artists at Nimba Creations were pointed in the direction of the work of designer Martin Cook by one of their clients, and it soon became clear that they would supply the imagery Siobhan had been looking for. The graphic designer had spent a great deal of time at his PC blending together photographs of various animals to create nightmare visions of Mother Nature gone wrong.

I couldnt believe the quality of the images that Martin had produced -- totally convincing 'cross breeds of every animal under the sun that just left you with a sense of wonder and sometimes, quite queasy! I came up with the idea of turning these fantastic creatures into model kits, each with their own character and background, and we set a sculptor to work producing them as 6" high figures. I think there are going to be a lot of people out there with the same warped mind as me who are going to really enjoy these models!"
