Health educators from local hospitals and health departments will provide materials and answer questions on infant nutrition. (PRWEB) June 20, 2005 --The Chicago Region Breastfeeding Task Force will celebrate World Breastfeeding Week in August with activities designed to promote the importance of mothers milk as the gold standard of infant nutrition. This outdoor family event will be held on Stockton Drive near the Lincoln Park Zoo pond (next to Café Brauer), on Saturday, August 6, 2005 from 10 am to 2 pm.
Breastfeeding women, families, fathers, children of all ages and the general public are welcome to enjoy a clown, face painting, refreshments, raffles and games while learning more about the benefits of breastfeeding. Representatives from local health departments, hospitals, community organizations and the Chicago Region Breastfeeding Task Force will be available to provide useful materials and to answer questions about breastfeeding.
The benefits of breastfeeding include fewer respiratory infections, decreased incidences of allergies and chronic diseases, improved mother-baby bonding and overall better health outcomes for mothers and infants. In addition, families with at least one breastfeeding child may save at least $400 per year in infant food costs.
According to WHO (World Health Organization), Breastfeeding is an unequaled way of providing ideal food for the healthy growth and development of infants." WHO states, ...infants should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life to achieve optimal growth, development and health."
The August 6th event is part of the annual World Breastfeeding Week and Illinois Breastfeeding Month activities.
