New York, NY (PRWEB) June 16, 2009 -- At the ripe age of 27, cognizant of past regrets and poised for future feats, Sienna Miller graces the cover of Vogue's July issue touting the August 7 opening of her first Hollywood blockbuster--G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. "I'm not averse to being in big commercial films…I would be lying if I said it wasn't part of my consciousness to know this would probably, hopefully, be a successful film, and that that would be a smart thing to do. But I wouldn't have done it if I didn't think it was a good project, and it was different."
Upon seeing G.I. Joe, Steven Spielberg said to the film's director, Stephen Sommers, "'That's Sienna Miller? Wow.'" She has certainly grown up in the two years since she last appeared on Vogue's cover in September 2007. The then 25 year-old actress espoused her many self-assured wiles but seemed on the cusp of a certain maturity--at once admitting, "I want to grow...I don't want to repeat patterns," then adding, "I'm young and I need to have fun." That interview began in the Rome airport with Miller bumming change from writer Sally Singer for a luggage cart on which she heaved her battered Samsonite suitcase, and moved quickly to a hotel room strewn with an assortment of mismatched clothes. Were the location not Hotel d'Inghilterra and the assortment of garments not designer, the scene might have portrayed any young twenty-something's disheveled state of travel. Soon enough though, Singer observes Miller posing in bed with then co-star Riccardo Scamarcio in a series of photos by Mario Testino, which rendered evidence of Miller's range, her spunk, her whimsy, her skill, and her beauty--proof of the actress that Miller would become.
And, in the current July Vogue, "Seriously Sienna" showcases a no less sexy version of the movie star, her sleek long ponytail reined in as she approaches the consequences of those infamous slights she had disregarded in her more confident youth--such as calling Pittsburgh "Shitsburgh": "I wanted to be conscious of my actions. I think I was really naïve…thinking that if you are true to yourself, that's enough, that's the best way to be. But, actually, it's important to become more conscious."
Recently forced to watch her own sex scenes amid New Yorkers in the ill-received The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, she confesses, "I don't think I feel comfortable getting naked now. I can see where I made the decision to make that film three years ago, but I made the decision to make that film three years ago, but then you grow up and evolve and your tastes change."
Such an admission is indication enough of Miller's blossomed facilities as she struggles to shake the trifecta surrounding her reputation--a party girl, Jude Law's ex, and an indie-flick-only chick who plays "one damaged, needy, or screwed-up girl after another." She's clearly doing the big things that big actresses do now. She's getting involved with charity work; she recently spent seven days in the Congo on behalf of International Medical Corps. Her role as the Baroness in G.I. Joe might catapult her into the most popular realms of stardom, and she'll begin tackling her Broadway debut too--the theatrical classic After Miss Julie. She says, "As an actress, you pack it all in after that. You've been on Broadway." But, still there Miller is in her hotel room: "It's insane, " she says--or as Vogue writer Jonathan Van Meter describes it: "Her hotel room is like her life: complicated, messy, public, fun." There truly are some things that just don't change.
The July 2009 issue of Vogue will be on newsstands June 16, 2009.
