The Gite Gallery presents African Summer Thursday July 21st -- Saturday August 13th - Opening Reception to benefit Bread of Life

Former Fox 26 News personality, Lloyd Gite is pleased to announce the opening of African Summer" a collection of expressive contemporary African paintings that evoke the lush spirit of the continent. The Gite Gallery (2024 Alabama) will open African Summer" on Thursday July 21st with a cocktail reception at 6:00 pm -- 8:00 pm. Partial proceeds from the evenings sales will benefit the Bread of Life charity of St. Johns United Methodist church.

Houston TX (PRWEB) June 21, 2005 -- Former Fox 26 News personality, Lloyd Gite is pleased to announce the opening of African Summer" a collection of expressive contemporary African paintings that evoke the lush spirit of the continent. The Gite Gallery (2024 Alabama) will open African Summer" on Thursday July 21st with a cocktail reception at 6:00 pm -- 8:00 pm. Sensitive in color, fresh and alive with feeling, the works in African Summer are emotional yet well organized in craftsmanship and scope. Acclaimed South African artist Peta and Mark Buku will be featured in The Gite Gallery show along with award winning artist Hector Ofori and Larry Otoo of Ghana.

Although the subjects vary, each artist found inspiration from the African social milieu.

My perception and discernment of things around me is always seen as part of my creative processes," Buku said. Painting, for that matter, defines my world."

Ghanaian artist Larry Otoo likes to be called a traditionalist, but admits his fathers music tastes were a strong influence on his craft.

My father worked for a long time in the US and became accustomed to listening to jazz and also Caribbean, Nigerian and Ghanaian music," Otoo said. Those sounds influence my painting; I feel the music in the colors that I use. My themes come from Ghana but also from those bands."
