San Diego Wireless Heavyweight Leap Wireless Supports New Start-up Incubator CommNexus Forms Non-Profit to Support Innovative Start-up Companies and Entrepreneurs in Communications and Communications Convergence San Diego, CA (PRWEB) June 17, 2009 CommNexus and Leap Wireless, International, Inc., the parent company of Cricket Communications, Inc., a leading provider of unlimited wireless services, today announce their support for EvoNexus, a non-profit incubator dedicated to helping San Diego start-ups in the communications and communications convergence industries evolve into sustainable and vital companies. Operating as a sister organization to San Diego communications industry group CommNexus, EvoNexus is designed to create a center of excellence for entrepreneurs starting companies dealing with communications and communications convergence such as wireless-life sciences and wireless smart grid. EvoNexus will house up to 10 start-up companies for up to 24 months in an "incubator" facility. Participating companies will be provided office space, access to tools and equipment, utilities, education and mentoring from industry professionals while they are part of the program. Upon graduation from the incubator, companies will be under no obligations to EvoNexus, financial or otherwise. "San Diego needs this," said Rory Moore, CEO of CommNexus. "Some of our best and brightest can't find jobs. Our start-ups are struggling to get local access to funding. EvoNexus is a rallying point for our community to be proactive towards developing successful companies irrespective of the challenges we face." As a part of their founding sponsorship, Leap Wireless will be donating Sorrento Valley facilities space for the incubator companies. EvoNexus will be fully funded and operated through in-kind and monetary donations. "As a company that values innovation and operations with an entrepreneurial spirit, we are pleased to have the opportunity to foster that culture in new companies joining the San Diego business community," said Doug Hutcheson, president and CEO of Leap Wireless. "EvoNexus would not be possible without the support of sponsors like Leap Wireless," said Cathy Pucher, executive director of EvoNexus. "It is this kind of contribution that will enable the start-ups we incubate to become viable companies that contribute jobs and economic growth to the San Diego economy." Entrepreneurs who are interested in being a part of the EvoNexus incubator should apply online at http://www.commnexus.org/incubator/. Applicant companies will be judged based on development plan, target market, domain expertise, willingness to participate in entrepreneurial education programs, and other criteria as listed on the website. Applications are due by midnight on Thursday June 24 in order to be considered for initial selection into the incubator. Applicants not selected for the first round will continue to be reviewed on a periodic basis for subsequent selection. About EvoNexus
