(PRWEB) June 26, 2005 -- (AUGUSTA) – S. Reggie Shannon, benefit chair for the fundraising event known as “SKEET-R-DONE FOR SCOUTING,” today announced that the Georgia-Carolina Council Boy Scouts of America and primary sponsors Rick’s Paint and Body and Hyp-Cryp PS are ready to welcome participants and spectators to the organization’s first-ever regional skeet/trap shoot competition. “We’ll host this exciting tournament from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M.---rain or shine---on Saturday, October 15th at Pinetucky Skeet and Trap Club,” reports Mr. Shannon. “We’re expecting 150 sportsmen from throughout the Southeast to participate, and we have also invited 50 Boy Scouts to participate for initiation into sporting clays and to help earn their shotgun merit badges.”

The event is open to those age 9 and above who can safely operate a weapon under adult super-vision. There will be instructors for new shooters, plus exhibits from sporting and conservation groups such as the National Wild Turkey Federation , Quail Unlimited, the National Rifle Association and ---of course---the Boy Scouts of America. “Snacks and beverages will be available, and all participants are invited to the Burger and Beans Awards Banquet, following the shoot,” according to Reggie Shannon. “There will be

door prizes, a Silent Auction, and a lot of fun to be had by all.”

Mr. Shannon explains that, in addition to raising funds for the Knox Scout reservation, the event’s goals will be to:

•    Introduce area youths to the safe handling of firearms in a safe, structured, and supervised environment

•    Help instill the highest and best principles of sportsmanship in our Boy Scouts

•    Reinforce the values of Scouting to spectators, adult participants, Scouts and Scouters

Funds raised for the benefit tournament will go toward helping build the Knox Scout Reservation, a planned “state of the art” multipurpose camp located at Clarks Hill Lake. The total cost of construction for the camp is estimated at $1.5 million. The Knox Scout Reservation will be used primarily as a regional camp for Boy Scouts, but will also be open to the general public year-round for a nominal fee. The regional camp will be wheelchair-accessible and feature an NRA-approved rifle and shotgun range.

The “SKEET-R-DONE FOR SCOUTING” skeet/trap shoot tournament is sanctioned by the NRA (National Rifle Association) and the NSSF (National Shooting Sports Foundation). In addition to tax-deductible donations, Mr. Shannon says that “in kind” donations of beverages, ammo, clays, or auction items will be greatly appreciated.
